The outcomes of learning listening are not often well defined. So, the students just listen to the provided recording without achieving the goals of listening. Various listening activities still fail to be obtained in the real life communication. The teacher usually did not provide them enough comprehensible input. Actually, the Students required being autonomous learners, information evaluators, observers, and critical thinkers in this era.
Acquiring listening skill is not able to be done by only listening to teachers’ talk or class instructions. The teacher should engage extensive listening and the role of technology to improve it. Using textbooks is not the only way to teach listening. In fact, the students often listen various of audio from cassette or recording from the teacher, but they still can’t master listening skill. That is why the teacher should apply extensive listening. There are so much learning resources on
the website or android application, for example, podcast. Podcast provide various types of recording which is updated regularly and can be used in the class. Moreover, the students may choose their own recording.

Podcast likely revealed the students’ individualized, informal language performance and increase their ability in solving challenging materials. It is also substitutional to review lectures attended; supplemental to deepen understanding with extra materials; and stimulation to encourage students’ creativity in creating the new podcast as a course requirement. However, the teacher should be careful in selecting the materials in podcast. The materials in podcast may be too difficult or too abstract for the students since it is authentic material. Thus, it is better to give limitation in choosing the audio. Besides, it is suggested for the teacher to ask the students work with their peer group. The students can discuss the content of the recording and it makes the communication between them stay connected.
I think this article is not too different with my previous article. Some researchers explore extensive listening to increase students’ motivation. Nonetheless, I think that podcast is not only used to increase motivation or known by the originality of the materials. It is easy to use by the students because the use of gadget has been very popular nowadays. Thus, as a teacher, I should follow the trend and find more aspects to be explored about the use of podcast in teaching listening.
